A new school year can mean a different syllabus
A folder full of notes can feel like a head start. Before you organise it, check that it belongs to the course you will actually be assessed on. An older sibling’s revision pack may still explain a topic beautifully while following a different syllabus version.
CXC’s syllabus directory lists CSEC Mathematics and English A/B versions for May–June 2027 onward, alongside versions valid through January 2027. Integrated Science has a version for 2027 onward. The directory also announces revisions for teaching from September 2026, including selected CSEC and CAPE subjects. Teaching dates and first examination dates are different: read the label for your exact subject.

Do a ten-minute syllabus check
Start with CXC’s official directory, then compare what you find with the document your school is using. Save one confirmed copy somewhere you can reach easily, including offline.
- Check the qualification and subject name; for CAPE, check the Unit too.
- Read the effective examination date on the document, not just the year in a downloaded file’s name.
- Ask your teacher which version applies to your sitting and whether any later guidance affects assessment.
- Label your saved copy with your subject and sitting so you can distinguish it from older material.
Turn objectives into things you can do
Choose one section and make a three-column list: the objective, evidence that you can do it, and your next practice task. Evidence might be a worked calculation, a labelled diagram or a paragraph you can write without help. A highlighted page tells you what you have read; your own response shows what you can currently produce.
Keep useful older questions, but map them to your confirmed objectives before relying on them. If a question’s format or content looks unfamiliar, bring it to your teacher. You do not need to throw everything away or guess what changed.
Make your next session specific
Write one small task you can finish today: explain a process in five sentences, solve three equations, or build a comparison table from memory. Check your answer, note the gap and put one follow-up task in your calendar. Your syllabus becomes useful when it helps you choose what to practise next.
