Better practice
Turn a wrong answer into your next step
A wrong answer can tell you what to work on, if you look beyond the mark.
Find the point where the answer changed
Compare your working with the explanation. Did you misunderstand a term, choose the wrong method, miss a unit, or make an arithmetic slip? Name the problem as precisely as you can.
Write the idea in your own words
Keep a short note of the rule or reasoning you missed. For a percentage increase, for example: find the increase, then add it to the original amount. Include a worked example if it helps.
Try a different question
Practise the same idea with different numbers or a different situation. Work without looking at the solution. Getting the original question right immediately after reading the answer does not tell you as much about independent recall.
Come back to it later
Schedule another attempt on a different day. If you are still stuck, bring your working and your specific question to a teacher. That makes it easier to find the missing step together.
